At Inner Circle we are taking on the knottiest challenges facing our cities and citizens. So when we set up the practice ten years ago we placed creativity invention and determination at the heart of what we do. We wanted our working environment to inspire, nurture collaboration and embody our mission. Our entire studio space exudes our spirit of enterprise and public endeavour.

It’s taken a pandemic to force the world to catch up and understand what modern work is all about. Meanwhile we are happily continuing to lead the way in exemplifying the next stage in the future of meaningful, high impact work.

Inner Circle’s Bermondsey studio is set up as a home from home. Whether it’s a whole team event, a project community coming together to hack a problem or an international collaboration, our space always feels inspiring and hygge. We love our Bermondsey Street neighbourhood. It embodies many aspects of great urbanism. We buy local. We actively supporting the neighbourhood events, business and community forums. Many of our staff live just around the corner. We are equally good neighbours to our other cities partners. We have taken up residence in our Truro project and are planning creative events and urban learning exchanges from our on-site office throughout the regeneration process. We act local and think global.

People come together around food, so we share lunch around our family kitchen table. We make use of the space for morning yoga and other stress relieving activities. We love taking advantages of London’s new low traffic neighbourhoods when we ride to work. We’re so passionate about wellbeing its one of four pillars to our extensive learning and development programme that regularly features Olympic sailor and international ambassador for young women Annie Lush.

Green living is extremely important to us. Our biophilic studio is a mini urban jungle with plants bought from East London’s famous Columbia Road Market and nurtured by the green-figured members of our team. We are taking measures to become a zero carbon practice and are progressively adopting the very best environmental management systems because we know we must be good ancestors.

HOUSING RETROFIT

Inner Circle was commissioned to design a delivery programme to improve the energy efficiency, insulation and heating of around 33,000 homes across the borough. Retrofit of the social housing stock is a key component of the council’s climate action plan to achieve carbon net zero. Its Green New Deal provides a once in a generation opportunity for action to address the global climate emergency, to improve the quality of homes in Camden and to capture employment and economic benefits for a community recovering from the Covid pandemic.

Islington Council asked Inner Circle for help to get its Bunhill 2 Energy Centre – an ambitious scheme that was over budget and missing deadlines - back on track to achieve its goal of using sustainable energy to help local people.

Meeting Zero Carbon targets is critical for Cornwall Council, as set out in its Local Plan 2010 - 2030 and Climate Emergency Development Plan Document. One of the main challenges for Cornwall, and for councils across the UK, is how to decarbonise heat, which accounts for over a third of the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions.
