Project Objective 


The West King Street Renewal scheme, which was designed by world-renowned architects Rogers Stirk Harbour and Partners and will deliver:


  • 204 new homes (52% of which will be affordable housing for local residents)

  • New B1 office and start-up space.

  • A new four-screen cinema, shops, cafés and restaurants.

  • A new public square and improved public realm.

  • A new fit-for-purpose, inclusively designed office accommodation for the Council through an extension and full refurbishment of the existing Grade II listed Hammersmith Town Hall



  • Following failed private sector-led attempts since 2008, Hammersmith and Fulham Council had developed exciting proposals for The West King Street Renewal in partnership with A2Dominion Housing Association, which were also well supported by the local community. 

  • However the council had been unable to take the project forward due to a shortage of internal capacity and capability.

  • The work included the huge task of decanting over 1,000 members of staff from the existing town hall and town hall extension to alternative office accommodation, so the scheme could be delivered within agreed timescales.



  • We became involved in the project September 2018. By the end of that year we had corralled the available information into an Outline Business Case that secured executive approval for the scheme to proceed.

  • Work began immediately to plan for the decant of the existing office and this began in July 2019 and complete in September. During that time over 1,000 members of staff and members would have been moved; allowing the new build project to proceed at pace. 

  • We secured planning permission and listed building consent in spring 2019 and demolition/construction works are due to start in late 2019 following the decant.
